RAFET ARSLAN’IN 'ŞUURALTI OPERASYONLARI' İÇİN YANLIŞ FRAGMANLAR/ INCORRECT FAGMENTS FOR RAFET ARSLAN'S 'SUBLİMİNAL OPERATIONS'

An essay, an article may well need an overall integrity, the integrity of a work that is, but when the subject is Rafet Aslan and the objects are the collages from his subconscious operations, his détournements and assemblages; the integrity hesitates.
Opposed to just about everything and a step ahead, integrity means perhaps a little bit of conservatism for the eye looking behind if need be.

Thus embarking upon the order of chaos rather than creating integrity, and capturing the poetic rhythm emerging from thereof is Rafet Arslan's uneasiness
The Rafet Aslan image, his work, not necessarily counters the academic establishment, yet it's within the fair safety of being sarcastic; teasing almost everything known and unknown in the most Debordian sense. Before and most of all sarcastic to and teasing itself.
Does the concept or the image come first? Not seeking shelter behind the known maxim: "Well it depends on the situation", humble as i am, the image i will proclaim, while implicitly referencing his poems. (see. Contemporary Art Manifestos)

Maybe I'm wrong, should i've said, "now, before all, it's the color, indeed"?
For the eye that sees, a mind slightly confused, surpassing the limits, the judgmental move; from the abstract to the concrete and from there on to an absolute eternity.
It's sharp and acutely mathematical, the situations built, the words, the acrylic on paper or collage, the robotic delusions drawing almost near the archaic cave paintings. Establishing an exhibition thru the questionings of the mechanized individual; for indeed setting up the exhibition is also establishing the self.

The state, these collages, images and concepts created within me, in pure naiveté, is a sense of acquaintance.
However estranged and without contact, like a close friend or a distant relative held sincerely upon an encounter, within close reach despite the evident estrangement, a known yet inaccessible mirror of anticipation…
Fetching together the most unlikely forms, the most mutant, spiritual or gnostic forms, at the most unexpected moments, and moreover the oddness of not assembling together the images meant to be in harmony. This contrast, this peculiar ordinariness is within us all.
The remnants of the once radical politics, the delivering back to to the street very poems he collected from there, the sidewalks he never rejected quite on the contrary that he takes pride in, the screams of the word, within this little unsettling strangeness of the street, Aslan carries all these to the canvas, wood or paper. Will anyone read it some day?
Leaning down onto the books in the old bookstore, or getting down to writing on the paper with a pen, or falling deeply into poetry, or being with a collage on the brink of many images; in the end these are no different for him than leaning into himself.
Thus before you in short, is the aesthetics of what can not be aesthetic, the politics of what can not be political, the poetics of what can not be poetic, the critics of what can not be criticized, tersely, the surreal which will never be able to be reported to have been is right across you. Rather proud of its nakedness, unashamed, the naked scream; flowing from our scars, once made to bleed, the pitch black night uniting with the laconic art which was not meant solely to be art. It's a human who recounts us to ourselves.
A faucet ceaselessly dripping, a soul song emanating from a wooden porch, an alien with whom we can converse, an exhibit of atrocity, verses of alchemy, Eylül's father, a street comrade, a gnostic mystery, a situationist of Kadıköy portending not to be so much a situationist, a public enemy, a destruction, the chastity belt of UN, an aspiring painter, an assembler of dreams, all these yet none of them also, a piece of empty paper, will anyone fill it up someday?
There will be ones who may consider collage as an old method, a prolongation overdue, impossible to renovate, indeed it maybe, however for Rafet Aslan collage constitutes the very problem of existence.
Setting aside the kissly touch of a paper and another paper, an image and another image in a collage, very much like the first stanza of a poet, collage is Rafet's first surgical cut into our alter-egos. For why afterwards the collage becomes no longer sufficient to him, isn't after all life an experiment? Getting back on the task, taking the paint in hand, he carries the very images not fitting into his dreams onto canvas which he previously collaged.
At this point indeed it's best not to attempt to distinguish between Rafet's paintings and his collages. A complementary experiment, a transition from the inner space to the ordinary surroundings, perhaps even they can also be read as the new chapter of a book.
Will anyone see this someday?
